BHAKTAPUR, Feb 2: Most slaughterhouses in Bhaktapur Municipality are found to be unhygienic in view of consumer’s health.

During a monitoring conducted by the Bhaktapur Municipality on Wednesday, most of the slaughterhouses were found to be dirty and thus supplying unhygienic meat. Abattoirs in the Hanumanghat, Maheshwari areas were monitored, said the municipality's market monitoring coordinator Raj Krishna Gora.

The facilities were found poorly managed. The walls and floors of the facilities are not tiled and marbled, they lack a proper water drainage system, use non-purified water, pay no attention to cleanliness, and avoid the health test of animals before slaughtering. It means they are not complying with the standards set by the government for the operation of slaughterhouses.

Some of the suppliers were found not renewing the registration and updating the weighing machines. They have been instructed to meet all required standards within the next three days, it is said.
