KATHMANDU, August 18: Sneha’s Care has started its “Anti-Rabies Vaccination” program in Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) with the slogan “Rabies Free Lalitpur” intending to vaccinate more than 10,000 community dogs against rabies.

The Rabies virus is transmitted from animal to animal through bites and contacts between open wounds and infected saliva, causing aggressive, unpredictable behavior. It is also transmitted from infected animals to humans. Due to the fatal and easily transmissible nature of rabies, rabies vaccine is the most important pet vaccine by far.

“As one of the largest animal welfare charities in Nepal, Sneha's Care aims to keep animals in the community safe and disease-free,” Sneha’s Care said in a statement.

In Nepal, rabies is reported to kill around 500 animals and up to 32 human beings in recent years, with possible under-reporting of cases and deaths. “On that account, this initiative emphasizes to inform local communities on the importance of rabies vaccination as well,” the statement added.
