KATHMANDU, April 20: Speaker Onsari Gharti has urged the authorities concerned to relay the May 31 local level election-related information to the people effectively.

Relaying election-related information effectively means to accommodate all people in the polls, she said while inaugurating the national conference-2074 that started from today for creating awareness of the right to information, with the theme of 'Foundation for democracy: Right to Information.' The programme was organised by the National Information Commission in the Capital today.

"Right to information will play a crucial role in making democratic system accountable. The article 27 of the new constitution has recognised and guaranteed the right to information as fundamental rights," she said.

Also on the occasion, Chief Commissioner of the Commission Krishna Hari Baskota complained that although the executive, judiciary and legislature make information easily available to all, the case with other grass roots-level bodies is bleak.

Likewise, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Dr Mahendra Bista stressed the need for all people to acquire information through the Right to Information Act. The one-day conference will issue a declaration. RSS
