The next meeting of HoR is scheduled on February 9. According to Shreedhar Neupane, press advisor to Speaker Sapkota, the two leaders discussed ending the deadlock in the parliament.
The main opposition party CPN-UML has been obstructing the meetings of the federal parliament, expressing dissatisfaction over the working style of the Speaker.
The Speaker, according to press advisor Neupane, said that the people's legislative body could not function properly and discussion on various issues of national importance could not be held due to obstruction in the parliament. Therefore, he urged all the political parties to cooperate and forge a consensus for running the parliament business smoothly.
On Sunday itself, a meeting of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, former Prime Minister and Chairperson of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister and Chairperson of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal held at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar discussed ending the deadlock in parliament. However, the UML has demanded resignation of Speaker Sapkota to lift obstruction in parliament.
