DHANGADHI, Feb 1: The topic of provincial parliament speaker of Province 7 has become the talk of the town. Of late, conversations on who would be chosen as the speaker can be heard in almost every nook and corner of Dhangadhi and other districts of the province.
After CPN (Maoist Center) was confirmed to get the position of chief minister, it is certain that the speaker would be chosen from CPN-UML, which has 25 members in the provincial parliament. Among them, the favorites for the position of speaker are Tara Lama Tamang elected from Kanchanpur -1, Purna Joshi elected from Doti, Pathan Singh Bohara elected from Dadeldhura, and Arjun Thapa elected from Bajhang.
Parties finding it tough to pick candidates for Province 2 poll...
Many of front runners said they are ready to shoulder the responsibility if their party decides to give them the position of chief minister or speaker.
“I don't believe that I should be the one to get that position. But if the party decides, I'm willing to shoulder the responsibility,” said Tara Lama, who is also UML's district chairman of Kanchanpur.
Purna Joshi of Doti, who has managed to create her image as an intellectual female leader, also expressed her readiness to take the responsibility. “I have not lobbied for the post. But if the party decides that I am the suitable candidate, I'll bear the responsibility,” she said. “I hope the party would see the qualification and skill instead of picking someone based on lobbying,” she added.
