Statements of 27 suspects in gold case recorded

BIRATNAGAR, May 8:Police have recorded statements of 27 suspects involved in the smuggling of 33 kg gold and murdering Sanam Shakya.

BIRATNAGAR, May 8:Police have recorded statements of 27 suspects involved in the smuggling of 33 kg gold and murdering Sanam Shakya. 


Police here have arrested 30 individuals suspecting their involvement in the infamous incident and completed recording statements of 27 by Monday, informed Nawaraj Dulal, Registrar at Morang District Court.

The statements of Tekraj Malla Thakuri, Mohan Kafle, Madan Prasad Ghimire, Narendra Karki, Lakpa Sherpa, Rajan Kumar, Bhujung Gurung, Rajendra Kumar Shakya, Mahabir Prasad Golyan Agarwal, Lal Bahadur Magar, Bal Krishna Sanjel, Birendraman Shrestha, Sambir Prasad Tolange, Bal Krishna Shrestha and Doram Khatri have been recorded. Likewise, the statements of Kapilraj Puri, Gopal Kumar Shrestha, Punya Prasad Lama, Hemanta Gautam, Raju Maharjan, Rajan Thapa, Amarman Dangol, Tularam Tharu, former DIG Govinda Prasad Niraula, security personnel Bishnu Bahadur Khadka, guard Amar Bahadur Thapa Magar, Superintendent Bikashraj Khanal have also been recorded.


As informed by Registrar Dulal, the statements of remaining three will be recorded on Tuesday. The arrested have been accused of smuggling, murdering, kidnapping and various other crimes. Still, 33 other suspects including the mastermind Chudamani Upreti aka ‘Gore’ is still at large.
