KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali has reiterated the government's stance on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

The minister made the remarks upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday after paying an official visit to Bangladesh.

However, he said that the government will receive the suggestions from the committee formed to study the impacts of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Gyawali said that the committee will not make any decision whether to pass MCC or not. “The committee will give some suggestions to the government on MCC. It is up to the government whether to accept the US grant or not."

He also made it clear that the study committee has been authorized only to study and solve the controversies being surfaced over the MCC.

Earlier, the Central Committee Meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party had formed a three-member committee under the leadership of its leader Jhalanath Khanal to study the MCC. Two other members of the committee are Foreign Minister Pradip Gyawali and leader Bhim Rawal.

Likewise, Minister Gyawali said that his recent visit to Bangladesh was focused on strengthening bilateral ties, economic development and mutual cooperation between the two nations. “Bangladesh has given green signal to initiate direct flights between two major cities of Bangladesh and Nepal and connect two nations through rail and water ways,” he added.

Similarly, on the different note, the minister maintained that China is capable enough to contain the coronavirus epidemic. He also expressed solidarity with the Chinese government to control the coronavirus outbreak.
