TAPLEJUNG, Dec 1: After 14 years, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has conducted a test flight from Taplejung's Suketar Airport to the Biratnagar Airport.

According to Lokendra Limbu, Taplejung station in-charge of NAC, on Thursday, a Twin Otter aircraft of the national flag carrier made a test flight between Taplejung and Biratnagar. Initially, the airplane that came to Taplejung from Kathmandu returned to Kathmandu with passengers. After that, the plane that came from Kathmandu to Taplejung as a second flight, after landing at the Suketar Airport, reached the Biratnagar Airport and returned to the Taplejung Airport and flew to Kathmandu with passengers. According to Limbu, since 2065 BS, NAC had not flown on the Biratnagar-Taplejung-Biratnagar route.

Before 2065 BS, Nepal Airlines (then Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation) was flying on the Biratnagar-Taplejung-Biratnagar route regularly. After the regular flights on the Biratnagar-Taplejung-Biratnagar route were stopped, Kathmandu-Taplejung-Kathmandu flights are being conducted. Passengers have been demanding at least two weekly flights from Suketar to Biratnagar, the capital of Province 1. Even though there is a demand from the passengers for regular flights on the Biratnagar-Taplejung-Biratnagar route even for pilgrims who come to visit the Pathivara Temple by air route from Eastern Nepal, there is a problem due to the lack of regular flights on this route.
