POKHARA, Sept 21: Highground Adventures is in the final stages of launching their new ‘Superman Zipline’ to attract adventurous tourists, who love a touch of adrenaline in their life. According to Highground Adventures, the new sport is deemed more exciting and adventurous than the previous zipline.

According to Dinesh Maharjan, operations director of Highground Adventures, the superman zipline is currently being tested and will be open for commercial use to the public before the Dashain festival. Prior to the new system, tourists would sit on the harness to experience the zipline. Now, they can lay down like Superman and enjoy the thrill of the zipline.

“The zipline can be used in both traditional and the superman way,” Maharjan said. The superman zipline will be more exciting for tourists as it moves forward at a higher speed, he added.

The station for the zipline is located in Sarangkot at the height of 1,550 meters, while the lower station is situated in Hemja at 950 meters. The two stations are at a distance of 1,850 meters from each other.

“It used to take 90 seconds to swing across the zipline. The time has decreased to just 50 seconds while swinging in the superman position. With this, we have the world’s fastest zipline inside the country,” Maharjan said. A tourist can reach a top speed of 120 km per hour while ziplining in the superman position, he added. The new sport will not only contribute to the tourism sector in Pokhara but will also introduce a new product to adventure tourism, he said.

The Highground Adventures has been operating ziplines for over a decade inside the country. They also operate adventure sports like bungee jumping along with ziplines. With the addition of the superman zipline, the organization now provides three adventure products for adrenaline enthusiasts.

The tourism sector cannot be revived with the help of old products in the market, so investments need to be made to introduce something new to the tourists, Maharjan said.
