Surya Nepal Challenge begins today

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Surya Nepal Challenge, the second event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17, will be played here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club from January 10 to 13 in the capital.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Surya Nepal Challenge, the second event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17, will be played here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club from January 10 to 13 in the capital. 



The tournament to be played over 72 holes will feature 40 golfers in total including 29 professional and 11 amateurs. Cut applied after 36 holes and top 21 pros along with ties and top six amateurs who make the professional cut will make it to the final 36 holes.

  

Nepal number one pro Shiva Ram Shrestha, Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Rabi Khadka, Sanjay Lama and Ram Thapa are among the major title contenders. Ramesh Adhikari is the defending champion.

Mithun Rai and Shiva Kumar Majhi will be among others to compete for amateur trophy. Meanwhile, other top amateurs Sukra Bahadur Rai, Tanka Bahadur Karki and Tenzing Tshiring will be the big name to miss the event as they are currently undergoing training in Bangladesh. 


The winner and runner up will bag purse of Rs 75,000, and Rs 46,000 and third place finisher will get Rs 31,500.Other pros finishing in top 21 position will also have share in the total cash prize of Rs 400,000.
