Suryodaya Municipality organizing tourism festival

ILAM, Dec 2: Suryodaya Tourism Festival is being organized in Ilam from November 30 to December 3 to promote tourism in the district.

The four-day tourism promotional event aims at promoting tourism attractions of the district on the eve of Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign. Chief Minister of Province 1 Sherdhan Rai inaugurated the festival by offering special worship to the rising sun on Saturday. Altogether 500,000 people are expected to visit the festival. 

The organizers are holding different programs simultaneously at six locations in Suryodaya Municipality.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony,   Rai said that the provincial government has allocated necessary budget for development and promotion of Ilam as a ‘Tourism City’. 

“The festival will contribute in the government’s mission of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’. Suryodaya Municipality has become a role model for other local units of the province,” he added.

He also said it was necessary for all Nepalis to know about tourism destinations of the country. “If we do not promote our destinations, nobody else is going to do that. Events like these will play a key role in promoting our tourism attractions,” he added.

Suryodaya Municipality is simultaneously organizing various programs in Gorkha, Panchakanya, Pahupatinagar, Fikkal, Kanyam, and Shree Antu. Kanyam-Fikkal-Antu Circuit of Ilam features in ‘100 Tourism Destinations’ unveiled last year by the federal government. 

Kanyam and Fikkal are home to beautiful tea gardens, while Shree Antu is probably the best place in the country to watch sunrise. Food stalls, exhibition of cuisines of different ethnic groups, tea tasting event, information of major tourist destinations and cultural programs of different ethnic groups were the major attractions of the festival. 

The municipality has improved transportation service to major locations of Suryodaya Muncipality to ensure that visitors do not face any inconvenience. Similarly, proper hotel rooms and eateries have been arranged to ensure best experience for visitors throughout their stay in Suryodaya Municipality.
