Suspension bridges at high risk in Bajura

MARTADI, July 19: Several bridges over the Karnali and the Budhiganga rivers, the two major rivers in Bajura district, are at high risk due to erosion. The bridge each at Taprisera, Dwari, Tipada and Rapak over the Budhiganga river are at risk.

MARTADI, July 19: Several bridges over the Karnali and the Budhiganga rivers, the two major rivers in Bajura district, are at high risk due to erosion. The bridge each at Taprisera, Dwari, Tipada and Rapak over the Budhiganga river are at risk.


Similarly, bridges over the Karnali river at Pilichaur is at high risk. The risk to the bridges has heightened with the rivers starting to swell due to the monsoon rain. The water level in the rivers has increased. The water level in the Budhiganga river has increased so much that it has reached up to the level of the suspension bridge at Dwari. People have stopped using the bridge.

The bridge over the Karnali river at Pilichaur is also at great risk. The retaining walls of the bridge have started collapsing. The eight families living near the bridge have been displaced. As many as six bridges over the Karnali river are in risk of erosion, it is stated.


The bridges at Wai-Bandhu, Gotri-Sappata, Rugin-Mugu, Bajura-Humla over the Karnali river are at risk.
