In recent times, the Kathmandu Valley has witnessed a disturbing rise in instances of murders stemming from seemingly petty disputes. The grim incident that unfolded in Gairigaun, Tinkune, where four lives were ruthlessly taken, has once again sounded the alarm on the urgent need for proactive measures to curb this escalating violence. It is high time the government steps up its efforts and considers the inclusion of psychological counseling as one of the crucial elements in addressing this disconcerting trend. The heart-wrenching incident in Gairigaun in Kathmandu saw the lives of four individuals brutally cut short, three of them from the same family. The victims, including a security guard at a sawmill, his wife, his elderly mother, and a young individual, suffered grievous injuries inflicted by sharp weapons. The shock and grief that enveloped the community in the aftermath of this tragedy underscore the urgent need for action to prevent such occurrences in the future. To probe into this heinous crime, a specialized five-member investigative committee has been established, headed by SSP Somendra Singh Rathore. This committee comprises skilled officers from various branches of the police force, demonstrating the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching this case.

However, addressing the aftermath of such tragic events isn't enough; it's vital to prevent them from happening in the first place. It's disconcerting to note that incidents like the Gairigaun tragedy are not isolated cases. Over the years, the Kathmandu Valley has witnessed a surge in murders arising from minor disputes, robberies, and personal vendettas. Data from the past fiscal years reveals a worrying trend, with a significant number of reported murder and attempted murder cases in the valley. What's even more concerning is that these acts of violence often stem from personal grudges and the inability to handle common disagreements. In this context, it's imperative to delve into the root causes of this growing propensity towards violence. Economic challenges, educational stress, and the changing dynamics of family structures with the rise in foreign employment have been identified as contributing factors. Furthermore, the pervasive influence of social networking sites, exposing individuals to the outside world, has been linked to heightened levels of stress and impulsivity.

The fabric of our society is undoubtedly under strain, necessitating a collective effort to restore its moral fabric. One crucial aspect that demands immediate attention is psychological counseling. Incorporating counseling services into our societal framework can play a pivotal role in addressing the underlying psychological factors that contribute to violent behaviors. Teaching individuals coping mechanisms, conflict resolution skills, and stress management techniques can also help to significantly reduce the propensity towards violence. Additionally, promoting moral education and fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and patience is paramount. It's vital to encourage individuals to reflect on the consequences of their actions, fostering a sense of responsibility towards society. Collaboration between educational institutions, government bodies, and community organizations can pave the way for structured programs that impart these essential values. The Gairigaun tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to tackle the rising instances of murders over petty disputes. Proactive measures, including psychological counseling and moral education, are pivotal in not only addressing the aftermath but also in preventing such senseless acts of violence. The time to act is now, and concerted efforts from all stakeholders can help restore peace and harmony within our communities.
