TAPLEJUNG, July 31: It has been found that more than half of the total prisoners and detainees are serving for attempted rape and rape charges in Taplejung District Jail. According to Kulendra Khawas, Jailer at the Taplejung Prison, there are altogether 145 inmates including 123 prisoners and 22 detainees.
As per the prison office, among them, 73 are serving for attempted rape and rape cases. It comes to about 50.34 percent of the total number of prisoners and detainees. There are 40 prisoners and nine detainees for attempted rape and rape cases.
Rautahat jail overcrowded, prisoners face sheer inconvenience
There are nine prisoners convicted of incest-rape, nine prisoners and three detainees charged with attempted rape, two detainees charged with child molestation, and one prisoner convicted of both murder and rape. Additionally, there are 35 prisoners and detainees convicted of murder after rape.
Likewise, there are seven prisoners charged with attempted murder, one convicted of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons, six charged with robbery and theft, six on charge of drug offenses, and three with vehicular manslaughter. According to sources, the Taplejung Prison was built in 1935 with a capacity for 25 prisoners.
