The task force has been asked to comprehensively review the existing laws and regulations, with a mandate to propose recommendations within a month. These suggestions are to be informed by an examination of international practices.
Currently, the retirement age for Nepal Police varies depending on the position held. Notably, the chiefs of the Nepal Police, APF, and National Investigation Department retire at the age of 58. However, there is effort from these agencies to advocate for an extension of the retirement age to 60 years.
The age limit for civil servants is currently 58 years. The Federal Civil Service Bill pending in parliament proposes the limit to be increased to 60 years of age.
In the budget statement for the fiscal year 2024/25, it is mentioned that the retirement age of security personnel will be reviewed. MoHA has formed a study task force, according to the provision in the budget.
