KATHMANDU, March 8: After a news report emerged that students in a Bhaktapur school were forced to cut their hands for securing less masks in examinations, police arrested the teacher involved in the inhumane act from Narefat on Saturday morning.
A team of police from the New Baneshwar Metropolitan Police Circle nabbed Sita Laxmi Karmacharya for forcing 35 students of Jagriti Academy in Jadibuti, Bhaktapur district, to cut their hands for securing less marks in examination.
“The teacher had forced 35 students of grade six and seven to cut their hands. On Thursday, she [teacher] forced the students to cut their hands themselves with pencil sharpening blades,” said DSP Durga Raj Regmi of New Baneshwar Police, adding that a meeting of school has already sacked the teacher for her act.

The teacher has been kept at Metropolitan Police Sector, Koteshwar, for further investigation into the incident.
It has been learnt that the Social Studies teacher had conducted a class test for the students with 20 as the full mark. She had threatened the students that she would cut their hands if they fail to secure good marks in the examination.
Then she forced the students to cut their hands on Thursday. “She forced the students to cut their hands themselves,” DSP Regmi told Republica.
Meanwhile, in the police interrogation, the teacher said that she had threatened the students so that they would focus on their studies. “I didn't cut their hands. I wanted them to make a small cut. I had no idea the students would make deep cuts on their hands,” the teacher said during the interrogation.
It has been learnt that the students cut their hands themselves as the teacher threatened she would make a deeper cut if they refused to do so. “The students were made to stand on the bench and make cuts on their hands,” DSP Regmi said.
The guardians of the students have not filed a case against the teacher yet.
