Tear gas fired to disperse protestors from disrupting elections

JANAKPURDHAM, Jan 26: A tussle broke out between party members of Janamat Party led by CK Raut and security personnel at Janakpurdham today. Security officers had to use force to disperse the protestors from entering the election hall of the National Assembly building.

JANAKPURDHAM, Jan 26: A tussle broke out between party members of Janamat Party led by CK Raut and security personnel at Janakpurdham today. Security officers had to use force to disperse the protestors from entering the election hall of the National Assembly building. The protestors carried sticks and were forcing their way into the government building. 


The police fired tear gas canisters and charged the protestors with sticks. According to the Chief of Police and Superintendent of Police of Dhanusha Basant Rajaure, security personnel used force to take the situation under control after the protestors pelted stones at them.

“The protestors are still creating obstructions. Police have fired tear gas canisters and are using force to control the situation. The agitators were trying to disrupt the ongoing National Assembly elections by entering the building which caused the tussle. The election is still underway,” SP Rajaure said. 


Meanwhile, party members of Janmat party have been protesting by burning tyres at various places of Janakpur since early Wednesday, and shouting slogans like ‘Give fertilizers before the polls.’ 


The protestors have also vandalized a vehicle, carrying the mayor of Hariban Municipality of Sarlahi. The protesters smashed the windows of the vehicle and also injured Mayor Ganesh Prasain. Deputy Mayor Renu Poudel was only inside the vehicle. 


The protestors have gathered from eight districts of Madhesh Province at Janakpurdham with batons and sticks to demand a proper provision for distribution of fertilizers to the farmers. The Janmat Party has also organized a program to hand over a memorandum to Chief MInister Lal Babu Raut of Madhes Province.
