KHOTANG, Jan 11: Thousands of commuters have been left stranded in Khotang due to the locals' protest against decision of the commission formed to restructure local bodies to recommend the local government in the district against their proposal.
Protesters have been hitting the streets since the past four days stating that village councils that have not been proposed by them also made it to the list of village councils and municipalities. They have demanded the government to correct the decision at the earliest by removing Mahuregadi as village council and replacing it with Lamidada.

Protesters hit the streets of Buipa, Rajapani, Bijayakharka, Nunthala and other areas. The road blockades organized by protesters have left thousands stranded. Their 'indefinite' bandh has affected Diktel-Jayaram road section along the Mid-hill Highway. The road section is an important route that connects the country's capital city.
The strikes have prevented commuter and consignment vehicles from plying the roads. Even sick people are having trouble travelling to hospitals for treatment. The condition is so worse that emergency patients are forced to charter helicopters or use aeroplanes.
“Until and unless the government upholds our previous agreement, our struggle will continue,” said Dinesh Rai, a member of the struggle committee formed to protest the government's move.
