KAPILVASTU, Feb 3: Three people have been arrested along with 2.1 million illegal Indian currency from Taulihawa of Kapilvastu. They were arrested along with the money in a car with Indian number plate at around nine o'clock last night near Jamuhar Bridge in Taulihawa based on a special tipoff. Among those arrested are two Nepalis and an Indian national.
According to Superintendent of Police, Prem Bahadur Basnet, among those arrested are Rakesh Kumar Verma, 26, Rajesh Kumar Verma, 35, of Shuddhodan Rural Municipality-6, Bimiha, the driver of the vehicle is Hamid Musalman, 28, a resident of Naugarh, Sidhharthanagar of India, currently residing in Mayadevi Rural Municipality-1 Emilia, Kapilvastu.
Man caught with illegal IRs 1.1 million
A total of 2.171 million Indian currency was seized from the driver and the two front seats of the (UP 55 AM 0459) Hyundai Venue vehicle while coming from Taulihawa to Bhairahawa. The money was recovered hidden by making a false bottom in three places under the seat.
According to sources, they were coming toward Taulihawa after selling gold in India. The police got information about them who were engaged in this business for many days. Rakesh Kumar Verma, who was arrested, is also the director of Mera Mart in Taulihawa. Superintendent of Police Basnet said that preparations are being made to hand those arrested to the Department of Revenue Investigation in Butwal for further action. According to the police, a case of embezzlement of foreign currency will be filed against them.
