MORANG, July 31: Morang police have apprehended three individuals, including a 10-year-old child, from Salakpu, Sundarharaincha Municipality-8, Morang, on the charge of snatching a gold chain. The incident took place when Nirmala Ray of Sundarharaincha-9 was returning home from the Salakpur market on Saturday evening.
According to DSP Ranjan Kumar Dahal, the spokesperson for Morang Police, the arrested group, consisting of Bishal Ray, 26, from Birgunj Metropolitan City-16 in Parsa, and Umesh Ray Yadav, 29, from Jagarnathpur Municipality-6, was responsible for robbing the woman of her gold necklace by snatching it from her neck.
Upon witnessing the chain-snatching, the locals immediately intervened and managed to apprehend the suspects, recovering the stolen gold chain. However, during the arrest, the gold chain was not found in Bishal's possession, but instead, it was discovered with the 10-year-old boy who was accompanying him.
Three held with 2.99 kg gold at TIA
According to DSP Dahal, Bishal had initially snatched the chain but let the child keep it to avoid suspicion. The police arrested Umesh as well after finding the gold chain while searching the child.
The suspects are now under investigation at the Area Police Office, Belbari. The police plan to file charges of theft and robbery against them for their alleged involvement in the chain-snatching incident.
