KATHMANDU, Nov 17: A bomb went off in Galkot Municipality of Baglung district near the place where senior leaders of CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center) and Rastriya Janamorcha were scheduled to address a rally.
UML chief KP Sharma Oli, Maoist Center chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC were scheduled to address the rally. A sudden loud noise from the blast spread terror among the participants.
With more attacks, anxiety over poll security grows
On the same day, a bomb went off in Gorkha district targeting Narayan Kaji Shrestha of Maoist Center in Sirdikhola of Gorkha Municipality-11 of the district. Shrestha is parliamentary candidate from the CPN (Maoist Center) from Gorkha constituency 2. The incident happened at around 4 pm, according to locals.
Shrestha was attending an election campaign meeting at that time. Police suspect that the bomb was denoted targeting Shrestha and his team. Police said they are investigating the incident.
Likewise, another bomb went off in Rolpa targeting the vehicle of Minister of State for Irrigation Amar Singh Pun, who is also Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for parliamentary elections in the district. Chief District Officer of Rolpa Dijan Bhattarai said they are investigating the incident. “A large number of police have been deployed in the area,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have arrested four cadres of Netra Bikram Chand’s party suspecting their involvement in Tuesday’s bomb attack on left candidate Sherdhan Rai. They were arrested from various places of Bhojpur on Thursday.
Chand’s party, the Communist Party of Nepal, in a statement Thursday has criticized the arrests.
