According to him, from the import of tobacco worth Rs 2.82 billion, the custom office receives Rs 1.49 billion in revenue including custom duty, excise duty and VAT.

The comparative increase in tobacco import is due to smooth trade between India and Nepal this year. The Birgunj custom point was closed for 134 days due to Madhes protests last year.
