KATHMANDU, June 7: The employees of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) have strongly objected to the government’s decision to transfer an employee to Taplejung for turning back the passengers who arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport to board a plane after buying tickets.
The employees’ union of NAC expressed anger over the transfer of Gagan Bahadur Chand, an employee of the corporation, for cheap popularity by the line minister without understanding the issue. The association has also demanded an apology from Tourism Minister Sudan Kiranti on the official social media of the ministry.
The union has demanded an immediate and fair investigation with true facts and evidence on whether the employee Gagan Bahadur Chand was at fault or not. Chairman of the association Man Bahadur Kunwar said that if the demand is not met, the employees’ union will go on a strike.

“The Minister for Tourism, Sudan Kiranti, who has held the responsibility, did not know about the safety operation manual related to load penalty and he did not even try to know about it, which is a flaw in itself,” reads a statement issued by the union.
What had happened?
Passenger Thakur Singh Bhandari reached the TIA on May 31 after the Kathmandu-Taplejung flight on May 24 was canceled due to adverse weather conditions. The passengers had already received the information from the corporation that 14 tickets had been sold in advance.
The association has claimed those passengers could not board the flight due to the load penalty.
Last Wednesday, NAC’s Kathmandu in-charge Gagan Bahadur Chand was punished for selling the company's ticket for the Kathmandu-Taplejung flight and turning away Thakur Singh Bhandari, who arrived at the door of the flight with the boarding pass.
