Traffic Police collects cash fine of Rs 3.30 million in drink-driving penalty in single day of Vijaya Dashami

KATHMANDU, OCT 17: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has collected Rs 3.30 million in fine for drink-driving on Friday-- the day of Vijaya Dashami.


According to the MTPD, the police took action against 3,300 individuals who were found guilty under drunk driving, popularly known as Ma Pa Se. The division office had deployed a large number of traffic police personnel from early in the morning of the main day of Dashain in a bid to check the possible accident due to alcohol consumption.

Mostly, large number of drinkers showing the pretext of festivals are found to have consumed liquors while driving the vehicles. The traffic police penalizes those breaching the rule with Rs 1,000 and makes them take an hour-long awareness class.


The government makes a notable amount of revenue collection via the traffic police every year. Last year, the government collected Rs 1.16 billion from the cash penalty against those breaching the traffic rules.
