KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has taken under control 71 taxi drivers for action as they were found overcharging passengers.
They were arrested under a special campaign the Division launched on Thursday. They were arrested for refusing to take passengers to their designated destinations, overcharging than the fare determined by the state, refusing to charge fare as per the taxi metre and for tampering the metres, Chief of the MTPD, Senior Superintendent Basanta Kumar Panta, said.
Over 6,000 cabbies booked for various violations
He said the Division conducted the special drive after many complaints of overcharging passengers and harassing them were received.
Panta said the police would conduct such special campaigns regularly. According to him, 80 traffic police personnel have been mobilized for this purpose.
There are 10,645 taxis operating in Kathmandu valley at present. RSS
