Three hundred and sixteen schools in Chitwan have received traffic education program initiated by District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan. With an aim to make the public aware about traffic rules and signs, the office began the program in Baishak 2074 BS.
In the last fiscal year, there were total 258 accidents in the district with 163 deaths, and in the previous year, the number of accidents was 151 with 75 deaths. This year, till March end, there were total 183 accidents where 93 people died in road accidents.

About the program, Head of District Traffic Police Office Chitwan, Santosh Pant said: “It is not possible for traffic department alone to ensure road safety. To minimize the accident rate, it is not enough to just punish those who do not follow traffic rules. The department initiated the program targeting school students so that they would be careful from childhood.”
“It is necessary for the children to learn how to live, and school life is the best time to learn about the same,” Pant said.
The department teaches about traffic rules and safety measures to school teachers, who are mobilized to educate the children about road safety rules.
Sun Bahadur Gurung, a teacher at Adharbhut Vidyalaya, Koilaha, shared: “We use video to teach our students about road safety and this has helped the students learn a lot about the safety measures while on the road.”
