Turkish prez committed to principles of democracy: NTCCI

KATHMANDU, July 20: Nepal Turkey Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is committed to the principles of democracy and is focused on maintaining economic stability and increasing trade with trading partners.

KATHMANDU, July 20: Nepal Turkey Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is committed to the principles of democracy and is focused on maintaining economic stability and increasing trade with trading partners.



Issuing a press statement, NTCCI, which has been promoting bilateral trade and investment between Nepal and Turkey, informed that Turkish government continues its crackdown on alleged coup sympathizers, widening its reach to the police forces, universities, the interior ministry, the finance ministry and within the prime minister's office.



A small faction within the Turkish Armed Forces tried to engage in a coup particularly in Ankara and Istanbul on the evening of July 15.



An excerpt of the press statement reads, "Following tough countermeasures from the government as well as steadfast public support on a street level for the government, the coup attempt was foiled," According to official figures, the coup attempt resulted in 232 fatalities and 1541 wounded.
