BIRATNAGAR, June 4: Two people lost their lives when a Bolero jeep was swept away by a sudden flood in the Ratuwa River.


The incident occurred on Monday evening when a jeep traveling from Damak to Mangsebung was caught in a sudden flood while crossing the Ratuwa River on the unpaved road section in Chulachuli Rural Municipality-5, Chapeti of Ilam.

According to the District Police Office, Ilam, Sarmila Wanem, 30, of Mangsebung Rural Municipality-5, and Nihang Limbu, a 3-year-old boy from Mangsebung-3, died in the incident. Niru Limbu, Nihang's mother, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.


When the Bolero jeep (Lu 1 Cha 9491) was swept away, three people, including the driver, managed to jump to safety.


The police have detained the driver of the vehicle, Netrahang Limbu, 22, for further investigation.
