KATHMANDU, Dec 4: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has so far issued climbing permits to two expedition teams for this winter season. The teams will attempt to climb two mountains namely Mt Luza Peak and Mt Kyungya Ri 2.
According to the Department of Tourism, a team of three male climbers will attempt to scale Mt Luza Peak (5726 m) and one foreigner has received the permission to climb Mt Kyungya Ri 2 (6506 m) for the winter season this year. Three Nepali climbers will scale Mt Luza peak.

The country is yet to see an increase in the number of climbers as COVID-19 persists. The pandemic has made it difficult for travelers to adjust as different rules are imposed in different places.
The mountaineering activities in Nepal resumed in July after a hiatus of nearly six months due to COVID-19 pandemic. Issuance of climbing permits was put in halt as a precautionary measure to minimize the risk of COVID-19 spread. Of 414 peaks opened for mountaineering in Nepal, 75 mountains still remain unclimbed.
