Two including a new mother die from snakebite

RUKUM (WEST), Sept 7: Two women including a new mother died from snakebite in Rukum West district. The 22-year-old new mother Binita Oli Bista of Chaurjahari municipality-13 and Gangi Pun, 61, of Sanibheri Rural Municipality-1 died from snakebite.

RUKUM (WEST), Sept 7: Two women including a new mother died from snakebite in Rukum West district. The 22-year-old new mother Binita Oli Bista of Chaurjahari municipality-13 and Gangi Pun, 61, of Sanibheri Rural Municipality-1 died from snakebite. 


A snake had bitten Bista on Tuesday afternoon at a time when she was collecting grass for cattle. She gave birth to a child on the same night and was taken to Chaurjahari Hospital after she suffered from excessive bleeding.

According to Administrator of the hospital, Dil Bahadur Giri, Bista died this morning due to spread of venom of the snake on her body and excessive bleeding. 


The condition of the newborn is said to be critical. Similarly, the snake had bitten Gangi Pun on August 21 and she was referred to Provincial Hospital, Surkhet from Chaurjahari Hospital. The family members of Pun had brought her home, saying they will do her treatment in the village, said ward chairperson, Tek Bahadur Pun. Pun died on Tuesday four days after she was brought home from hospital.
