KATHMANDU, June 3: CPN-UML aligned student and youth unions on Saturday staged demonstrations at Maitighar Mandala in the Capital to protest the decision of the Election Commission to re-organize voting in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19.

The Commission took a decision to this effect as per the constitution following the reports of the finding of torn ballot papers with votes during the vote count for the Metropolis. Following the finding, the vote count was halted subsequently.

The protesters—Youth Association Nepal and All Nepal National Free Students Union—said the decision was a 'blunder'.

Addressing the protest rally, Vice Chairman of the Association Ramesh Poudel voiced concern about the decision, saying it would set a bad precedent in the future elections. He also demanded the resumption of the halted vote count at the earliest.

Similarly, ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama demanded action against those behind the tearing of the ballot papers with votes. RSS
