KATHMANDU, August 4: The CPN-UML has asked the government to withdraw its decision to scrap the Landless Problem Resolution Commission (LPRC).
Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, UML Spokesperson Pradeep Gyawali asked the government to roll back the decision without any further delay. Arguing that the decision fails to honor the people’s fundamental rights, Gyawali also denounced the government’s decision.

A Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday decided to scrap the LPRC. The commission was headed by Devi Gyawali, a UML leader in Chitwan.
The UML has maintained that the commission was formed to ensure the people’s fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution. The party claimed that the decision to scrap the commission formed in line with the existing laws shows that the government is against Dalits and landless people.
The UML has maintained that the commission has been dissolved to take political revenge even as around 1.2 million landless people in the country were already in the process to get land ownership certificates. While asking the government to withdraw the decision, the party also announced that it would always stand by the genuine demands of the landless people.
