UML to continue with house obstruction

KATHMANDU, May 17: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has decided to continue with the obstruction in parliament.


UML Vice-Chairman Subash Nembang said they will obstruct the federal parliament meeting summoned for 4 PM today as their demands are not yet met. Talking to media persons at the party’s headquarters in Chyasal on Tuesday afternoon, Nembang said that his party has not taken any new decision to lift the house obstruction.

The UML has been protesting against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota alleging that he did not sack 14 lawmakers as recommended by the party. Sapkota’s decision not to take action against 14 lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal in August last year had paved the way to form a new party called CPN (Unified Socialist), splitting the UML.


President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on the May 8 recommendation of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, has summoned the new house session for today. The government is scheduled to unveil its policies and programs and a new budget for the fiscal year 2022/2023 during this session.
