KATHMANDU, Dec 12: The CPN-UML has decided to hold district conventions on January 6 and provincial conventions on January 22 under the organization building and leadership transfer campaign. The decision was taken at the Central Committee Meeting held at the German Party Palace at Gattaghar in Bhaktapur on Saturday afternoon. The meeting fixed the date of the convention after party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli directed to transfer leadership to new leaders after conducting a conference of people's organizations, district and province committees.
The Central Committee meeting had an agenda to decide on 15 issues including the hierarchy of office bearers, division of labor, formation of standing committee and politburo. The next meeting of the central committee to be held on today will decide the priorities of the office bearers including six Vice-Chairpersons, three Deputy General Secretaries and seven Secretaries. There are also plans to form a Standing Committee and a Politburo.
UML to hold district convention on January 7
Although the meeting held at Oli's residence in Balkot on Saturday morning decided to finalize the division of labor, formation of standing committee and politburo, the leaders said that the decision would be taken on Sunday's meeting after making necessary homework.
Similarly, after the central committee meeting to form a standing committee and politburo, the leaders met Chairperson Oli, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, vice Chairperson Bishnu Poudel, Surendra Pandey and Ram Bahadur Thapa and lobbied for them. According to the UML statute, there is a provision to form a 45-member Standing Committee and a 99-member Politburo. The Politburo, which was weakened by the Statute General Convention held in October has been revived by the 10th General Convention.
Similarly, the Central Committee meeting will nominate 10 percent central members. Leaders are also lobbying for this. However, it has not been decided whether the central members will be nominated now.
