GANDAKI, October 29: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to visit Pokhara on Monday as part of his four-day official trip to Nepal. He arrived in Kathmandu today and will continue his visit to Pokhara.
According to Basudev Ghimire, the Chief District Officer of Kaski, they are preparing to welcome Secretary-General Guterres in Pokhara on Monday afternoon. As per the visit itinerary, he will visit the Annapurna Base Camp on Monday morning. Security measures in the district have been heightened in view of the Secretary-General's visit.
UN Secretary-General reaches Annapurna Base Camp
This marks Guterres' first visit to Nepal since assuming office in 2017.
During his visit, he will engage in discussions on issues concerning Nepal's ongoing peace process, sustainable development goals, and climate change. The visit by the UN Secretary-General to Nepal after around 15 years has been considered highly significant.
Dhanraj Acharya, the mayor of Pokhara metropolis, expressed his delight at the forthcoming visit of the UN Secretary-General to the town. "We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming him to Pokhara."
