KATHMANDU, July 28: Former prime minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has formed a new party named Nepal Samajbadi Party after his efforts to bring together all communist parties to form a Samajbadi Kendra (Socialist Center) did not materialize.
According to his personal aide Bishwadeep Pandey, the new party has been registered at the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday. An application for the registration of the new party was filed at the EC three days ago.

Dr Bhattarai is the chairman of the new party.
When the intra-party rift in the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP)-led by Upendra Yadav was at its peak, Dipak Lamichhane, a JSP leader close to Dr Bhattarai registered a new party named Samabeshi Loktantrik Party at the EC. Dr Bhattarai-led group has now filed an application to rename the party as Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP). Dr who was the Federal Council chairman, a ceremonial post with no executive powers,
This development comes after a meeting of the JSP Central Committee meeting held in Birgunj from July 13 to 14 decided to expel Dr Bhattarai and nine others close to him from the party. Dr Bhattarai-led faction of the JSP had held a meeting in Kathmandu from July July 12 to 13 in Kathmandu and decided to form a new party.
Although Dr Bhattarai initially wanted to open the new party named Samajbadi Kendra by bringing other leftist parties together, he decided to form NSP after his efforts could not succeed. Dr Bhattarai also held meetings with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in this connection.
