KATHMANDU, July 4: Nepal’s marquee cricket event Everest Premier League (EPL) Pvt. Ltd. has join hands with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in a partnership for the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nepal.
Both signed the agreement in a press release held at Kathmandu on Tuesday. The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, is a global agreement to end poverty by 2030.
Under the partnership, the UNDP and EPL will collaborate for initiatives to raise awareness and mobilize relevant stakeholders and advocate for their contribution. It will explore ways to promote and maximize the contribution of sports, especially the cricket, one of the most popular sports in the country, to the sustainable development of Nepal.

The founder of EPL, Aamir Akhtar was excited to contribute on the social awareness for the agendas that SDGs is carrying.
"We are very excited to enter this historic partnership. Cricket in recent times has been a great tool for spreading social awareness and we believe we can make great impact to trigger social change through this partnership” said Akhtar.
The slogan for this partnership will be "#Cricket4SDGs".
The SDGs and the Agenda 2030 – adopted by the UN Member States, including Nepal, in September 2015 – recognize the private sector, youth and civil society as one of the key partners in advancing the Global Goals.
The sports sector provides a powerful medium for all countries across the globe to mobilize youth and other stakeholders, including the private in promoting the Global Goals.
“The sole motive of our partnership is to use the power of sports and in particular the popularity of cricket in Nepal to advance the SDGs. It has significant potential to garner support for Nepal to achieve the SDGs by 2030.”- said Renaud Meyer, Country Director of UNDP for Nepal.
