UPDATE: Death toll from Gulmi landslides climbs to eight

GULMI, July 23: The death toll from landslides in Satyawati rural municipality has climbed to eight on Tuesday afternoon.

GULMI, July 23: The death toll from landslides in Satyawati rural municipality has climbed to eight on Tuesday afternoon.


Chief District Officer Yadunath Poudel told Republica Online that the death toll rose to eight as two more dead bodies recovered from debris during a rescue operation. At least two others have gone missing in the landslides triggered by incessant rains since Monday.

Earlier today it was reported that six persons were killed and two others went missing in the landslides that occurred at Thulo Lumpek and Limgha areas when two houses collapsed.


The District Administration Office has deployed a special to carry out rescue operations. According to the local Jit Bahadur Tramu, Til Kumari Rai aged 30, and her son Darsan Tramu, aged 10, died in the landslide.




Daughters of the same family Karishma Tramu, aged 12, and Dhani, aged 14, were injured. Public transportation has disrupted in landslides-hit areas.
