PALPA, Feb 16: Villagers of Balepandhera, Bahundanda and Kamitole of Rampur municipality-10 have begun migrating due to severe crisis of drinking water.

The area that was home to more than 100 households is currently limited to only 20 households. Apart from acute shortage of water, the locals here have also been facing lack of accessible roads and electricity.

The locals have been forced to spend their entire days looking for drinking water. Villagers have to walk for at least three kilometres to fetch a pot of drinking water, says local Rituman BK. "I thought the problem would be addressed after we became a municipality but to no avail," said the 73-year-old. It was only recently that the VDC was upgraded into a municipality.

The migration of the locals has also left huge stretch of arable land barren, with nobody left to farm in the land. RSS
