KATHMANDU, May 7: Women have come across an increasing spate of violence perpetrated by a male, said the National Women Commission. At a sample test of the programmes on women development implemented at Shuklaphanta municipality on Monday, NWC deputy secretary Meera Sherchan said the number of gender-based violence against women has increased due to social structure, values, and mindsets.
Chhaupadi still prevalent in hilly districts
In the current fiscal year, a total of 649 cases of economic violence, 585 of physical violence and 459 of mental violence related cases have been registered at the NWC.
It is shared that 83 percent of the incidents registered is domestic violence. In the focal year 2074/75 BS, total complaints registered against domestic violence and violence against women was 838. Out of the total, 766 incidents were related to domestic violence. RSS
