KIMATHANKA July 25: The number of patients with viral fever and dengue has surged at the Khandbari Hospital in Sankhuwasabha district. As the cases of viral fever and dengue have increased since mid-July, there is a shortage of beds at the hospital.
Shekhar Khatri, information officer of the hospital, said that the beds for treatment are insufficient after the rise in viral fever and dengue patients since mid-July. Khatri said, “The patients are being treated on the floor due to the lack of enough beds.”
According to the hospital administration, due to the rapid increase in the number of patients with viral fever and dengue at the district hospital, the patients are being treated on the floor, other empty places and halls.
Bheri Hospital records sharp rise in dengue patients
Information Officer Khatri said that most of the patients who have been coming for treatment at the hospital are found to have fever, dengue and scrub typhus. According to him, 160 patients of scrub typhus and 27 patients of dengue have been found from Mid-April till now.
In the last fiscal year, 1,144 individuals were infected by dengue while 520 individuals were infected by scrub typhus. The symptoms of viral fever are headache, fever, vomiting, nausea, runny nose and cough, according to doctors.
The number of viral fever patients is increasing even at other government and private hospitals in Sankhuwasabha. Khatri said that there has been a significant increase in the number of patients with viral fever in the district this year.
The hospital was built in 1977 and currently has 50 beds. Similarly, patients from 10 local bodies of the district as well as more than half of Bhojpur arrive at Sankhuwasabha for treatment.
