BARDIYA, Oct 4: A picture of a group of students of Bansgadhi Municipality crossing a river to go to their school in Barbardia has gone viral on social media.
The sight of the students clutching their textbooks and notebooks and crossing the river to go to their school speaks volumes about the state of development in the area. After journalist Sheetal Thapa posted this picture on Facebook, Ramesh Thapa, former warden of Bardia National Park responded saying that he, too, had contributed to the construction of this school and that the villages of the municipality are where they were 20 years ago in terms of development.

Despite the assurances of the then minister Raghubir Mahaseth, the mayor claims that a bridge could not be built over the river. Most of the locals lament that the people's representatives have done nothing to develop the villages in the municipality and that the villages are in the same condition as 20 years ago.
According to Ram Bahadur Wali of Dhakela, the students were forced to cross the river to go to school as there was no school near Bansgadhi.
