Visiting CPC delegation meets leaders of rival faction of NCP

KATHMANDU, Dec 28: A high-level delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which is currently visiting Nepal, held separate meetings with the leaders of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), on Monday morning.

KATHMANDU, Dec 28: A high-level delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which is currently visiting Nepal, held separate meetings with the leaders of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), on Monday morning.


The delegation led by vice minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Guo Yezhou, met Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter's residence in Khumaltar.


According to a source close to Dahal, the Chinese side expressed serious concern over the split in the ruling NCP. On his part, Dahal is said to have conveyed the evolving political situation after the dissolution of parliament in Nepal. However, Dahal's secretariat has not shared anything regarding the meeting that lasted for one and a half hours.

After meeting Dahal, the CPC delegation held a separate meeting with Madhav Kumar Nepal, co-chairperson of the Dahal-Nepal faction, at a hotel in Kathmandu. 


The Chinese leaders are also holding a separate meeting with Jhalanath Khanal, the other leader of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the NCP today afternoon.


The four-member CPC delegation, which arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon, held separate meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the same day.


The President's Office and the Prime Minister's Office have confirmed the meetings, but have not made public what transpired during the meetings.


The Chinese leaders' visit to Nepal comes at a time when Beijing appears particularly concerned over the move of Prime Minister Oli to dissolve the House of Representatives and the evolving political situation that saw a vertical split in the NCP.
