RUKUM, Feb 25: An elected representative of Banfikot Rural Municipality in Rukum has established a revolving fund for the students in memory of his son who was killed during the insurgency period.
Dhan Bahadur Khatri, chairperson of Banfikot-2, had lost his eldest son during the Maoist insurgency. Khatri set up the Martyr Khadka Memorial Scholarship Fund worth Rs 111,111 in Janakalyan Secondary School where his son studied up to the sixth grade. Dhan Bahadur's son Khadka was killed by police on February 26, 1996.
Eldest student in college sets up scholarship fund
Khadka, who was 15 at the time, was killed in police action during a gathering organized by the then Maoist rebels in Melgauri of Pipal VDC on the 14th day after launching the insurgency.
On the occasion of 55th anniversary of the school, ward chief Khatri handed over a cheque as well as money collected for the fund to Karna Bahadur Khatri, chairperson of the school management committee. The interest of the money will be used for providing scholarships to the poor and talented students of the school from next year.
According to Khatri, he wanted to make sure that no deserving student is deprived of education in lack of uniform and stationeries.
