OKHALDHUNGA, Sept 17: A ward chairperson has come under fire for taking a solar set to his home from a health post in Sunkoshi rural municipality in the district.

It has come to the light that Chairperson of Sukoshi municipality-1, Diphari Rai, took 200W solar set to his house three months ago from the health post based in Balakhu.

The solar set, which was purchased primarily to use at the birthing center, was unplugged during maintenance works of the health post office building.

Rai, who is also the health post management committee chairperson, took the solar set to his home without taking pre-consent of the other committee members. However, other members of the committee said they were unaware of the incident.

“During the maintenance of the birthing center, the wire of the solar set was unplugged. The chairperson took away the set from the roof of the health post,” informed health-post in charge Barun Jha.

Jha added that chairperson Rai paid no heed when the latter was asked not to misuse the public property. Following the incident, a birthing center has been lacking lighting facility.

Talking to Republica Online, Ward Chairperson Rai admitted that he had taken the solar set to his home. “I took it to my home to charge dead solar battery. I’ll soon return it,” he added.

However, sources claimed that he has already installed solar set at his house.
