KATHMANDU, Sep 7: Mukunda Rijal, the ward chairman of Ward Number 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), passed away today.
Daksha Poudel, a close friend of Rijal and a representative of the Nepali Congress (NC), confirmed the unfortunate news of his passing while undergoing treatment at Grandi Hospital. Rijal had been admitted to Grandi Hospital due to a severe case of dengue and, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to the illness.
By-elections to be held for 21 posts at local level
Rijal, who was elected as the ward chairman on behalf of the NC, also held the position of Regional President for the party's Kathmandu Constituency No. 7. He was well-regarded for his approach to public service as he would tirelessly visit residents in their homes to address their needs.
Late Rijal drew public attention for his argument with Mayor Balendra Shah during a metropolis executive committee meeting held shortly after the local level election.
The KMC has organized a tribute program in honor of Mukund Rijal, which will take place at the National City Hall at 11 AM.
