SARLAHI, Jan 31: One of the ward chiefs of Sarlahi is not just spending the government budget but also his salary and allowances on social service as promised during his election campaign.
Nawaraj Adhikari, ward chief of Lalbandi Municipality-17, on Tuesday provided 142 sweaters for the students of two local schools. The students belonging to the Dalit and other marginalized communities in Fuadda Singh Secondary School (FSSS) and Kalinjor Secondary School (KSS) were handed over the sweaters amidst a program on Tuesday.
Speaking at the program, Principal of FSSS Min Bahadur Gurmachhane said that ward chief Adhikari has offered a huge respite to the students and the school.

"We are grateful toward him for his generosity as our students will no longer have to come to the school freezing and shivering," said Principal Gurmachhane, adding, "We hope that he will continue to do social service even in the coming days."
Meanwhile, ward chief Adhikari stated that he chose two schools where most of the students belong to the marginalized communities.
"Actually, it's the school authorities who had selected the students from the underprivileged communities. And I provided them sweaters so that they could escape the freezing cold," he said.
On Dashain, Ward chief Adhikari had distributed a sack of rice and Rs 1, 000 each to 15 squatter families of Nayabasti so that they could celebrate Hindu's greatest festival with joy. As promised during the local election campaign, Adhikari made the effort to convince the local unit to provide 5-5 dhur land to 36 squatter families of Nayabasti and succeeded in doing so.
During Dashain, he visited 15 squatters family who had already shifted to the land provided by the government and offered them money and rice from his salary. A few days ago, Adhikari provided a four-inch long LED television to Padma Bhuwaneshwari Old Age Home. He decided to buy the television after finding out that the elderly people living in the old age home do not have television to watch their favorite programs and to spend their leisure.
"I have enough property to sustain my living. So, I want to utilize my salary for the welfare of the needy," said Adhikari. As there are very few representatives or leaders who deliver their promises, the locals seem quite impressed with him.
