TAPLEJUNG, July 10: Although the water level in the artificial lake formed after the landslide blocked Tamor River at Mitlung in Phurumbu VDC has started to recede, locals are still living in fear as mudslides have continued to hit the area.
A police team at the site concluded that water level is decreasing as the houses submerged by the river have started appearing.
Acting Chief at District Police, Taplejung, Sailedra Kumar Yadav told Republica Online that a possible crisis has not be averted yet as landslides have not stopped.
According to teacher Chandra Thing Tamang, a lake some 100 meters long and some 70 meters deep has been formed.
The possible outburst of the artificial lake formed by the landslide could impact two economic centers in Constituency No 2— Hardung and Dobhan and Simwa Bazaar.
Locals in Hardung and Dobhan have been asked to be cautious, police said.
