KATHMANDU, July 5: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has said that the government has adopted a policy to protect agriculture through its tax policy.
He said so while addressing a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday.
Five policies for agriculture
Finance Minister Pun said that through the next year's budget, a policy has been taken to protect agricultural products through tax and other policies. He expressed his belief that the policies adopted by the government would contribute to the modernization and commercialization of agriculture.
Mentioning that the government has declared 2081-2091 as the Agricultural Decade, he promised that even if the political leadership and ministers change, the policy will not change. He said that the country will develop only if there is policy predictability and political stability.
“VAT has been imposed on agricultural products in the current fiscal year, but the government has removed VAT to protect agriculture in the budget for the next fiscal year,” Pun said.
