KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The CPN-UML has shown concern over the debate among the ruling coalition regarding the upcoming elections. Releasing a press note today, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that the party will not accept any kind of deception and excuse to defer the local level election.

Despite the Election Commission's suggestion to hold local elections on April 27 and May 5, the ruling alliance has been debating whether to hold all three level elections simultaneously in November.

“Some leaders of the coalition are trying to push the local level election under various pretexts. The CPN-UML is clear that this proposal was not put forward with any good intention, but with the wrong intention of postponing the local elections and creating political confusion and instability in the country. We are ready for elections anytime. The local elections should not be rescheduled,” the press note reads.

Similarly, UML has also stressed holding the election on the date recommended by the Election Commission. The term of the local level people's representatives is coming to an end on May 19. Stating that the people will be deprived of public services if the local governments are without the people's representatives, the UML has reminded the provision of the Local Level Election Act 2073 that elections should be held two months before the end of the representatives’ term.
